Hackney Wick: The Riverbank - Watercolour - 60 x 20cm
I love the energy of this part of London, Hackney Wick. I love the visual contradictions.
The regular, almost mechanical order of the Victorian factories contrasting with the colours and the shapes of the graffiti.
I love the way that the abandoned warehouses and barges have found new life as homes and restaurants - the sheer creative human energy that this area exudes.
This is one of my favourite views - I sketched this on the benches outside the Crate Brewery.
I wanted the finished image to feel quite two dimensional, almost like a piece of graffiti itself while capturing the main constituents of Hackney Wick: the Victorian industrial landscape, the graffiti and the barges on the river.
